Well, the Phillies blew a chance to take the wild card lead last night, but I cannot retell the horrible details. Ryan Howard broke Mike Schmidt's club record for home runs in a season - he now has 49. Yee haw...and I could be his mother!! (okay, just barely)

In more heartening news, this is what I knit yesterday:

An ordinary mitten, you ask? Why, no! See for yourself!!

Tis this mighty pattern:

Love this pattern, love the idea, love the yarn (Rowan Kid Classic)! I'm teaching Flip-Top Mittens as a class in the fall, so I had to knit a demo at work. I had never knit fingers before, and they weren't as horrible as I thought they'd be. And because I can't just leave well enough alone, I poked around the wonderful "1000 Great Knitting Motifs" book and found a little Fair Isle pattern to throw in (it's the top one here):

The patterning came out extremely subtle, perhaps a little more subtle than I desired, but that's okay. Subtle's good, eh?

I love knitting mittens in general, and these have so many little fussy things going on all the time I find them extremely enjoyable to knit.

Speaking of classes, I realized that today is September and I'm teaching a spinning class in 10 days and I haven't given it a thought since I told Mary back in May that I could teach it. And it's not like I've been spinning for years and can just pick it up and go. I figure I should pick it up again to make sure I know what I'm doing, right? So get ready for some Spinning Madness!!!
