It Happens Every Year.....
By the end of August every summer, I can't wait for school to start. Gus and I are both cranky and bored and kind of both pills to each other and ready to spend some time apart.
And then, the first day of school comes:

And I drop him off and cry all the way home.

Right with you. My kids started transitional first yesterday, and I bawled like a baby. The first year of all-day school. Can you imagine the mess I would have been if we had chosen to send her along to first grade rather than a gift-of-time year?
It doesn't get any easier. I still get weepy when I see my H.S. Senior and Sophomore off....don't even TALK about my grade school guys!
Just seeing his photo has me all weepy. I miss stopping in his classroom just to give him a little kiss or high-five. "Are you Gus's Aunt?"
