Okay, I meant to do a post about what's going on with me knitting-wise these days, but it's sort of boring, so I keep putting it off. I'll try to get inspired in the next couple of days.

In the meantime, indulge me while I post again about baseball. Yesterday was Opening Day for the GYAC Cork Tavern Red Sox. Like last year, the Opening Day Parade was awesome, complete with:

fire engine!

and Mummers!

Here I captured the Cork Tavern Red Sox walking by the Cork Tavern itself (see yellow arrow)

Here's the sweet swinger (his coach told Matthew at practice the other day that Gus's hitting reminds him of Gary Matthews!) posing for his baseball card:

Third baseman anticipating the play (he never actually touched a ball in the field during the game, but he looked good):

Post-game pep talk from the coach:

Gus went 2-for-2, with 2 RBIs. The team "won" 7-6. Though they don't keep score, the kids know down to the very last ball and strike what the score is. Great day.

What a guy! What a parade! Let's win it all for the Cork Tavern! Glad to see Gus is hitting well, and his demeanor at third base must have kept those Rangers hitters off balace trying to keep the ball away from him. (Just like when Michael Jack What's-his-name was playing third base.)

Keep up the good work, Gussie!

When they traded Sarge for Bill Campbell I nearly chucked all my Phightins' gear out the window. Terrible trade. I'm convinced that if they hadn't made those trades (Hernandez for Wilson and Matthews/Dernier for Campbell) during the last week of spring training, Phils would have repeated as division champs. Horrible, horrible moves.

Be careful that the Cork Sox don't trade Gus for a keg of Keystone Light.

gg - yeah, the parade is a banner day in Glenside. The people in cars that get stuck at the intersections on Keswick Ave must be like, WHAT is going on???

kel - I'm poking through the dark mists of my phillies memory - are you talking about Willie Hernandez? Who won the Cy Young the year after he was traded? Hrmph. (I did love Glenn Wilson, though) But wasn't Sarge an awesome comparison??!! I can't say I see it quite yet, but it's a mighty compliment.

Diana, you are correct. Willie the H was ours the year before he won CYA, MVP and a World Series with Detroit. I still can't talk about it. Now you gotta teach Gus to do that little corkscrew/wiggle move that Sarge did.

ps Mr. Wilson was okay. Not great, just okay.
